Salty’s Kite Village - Explore our activities in the most beautiful location in Kilifi, Kenya

When we started Salty’s three years ago it was our dream to put Kilifi on the kitesurfing map of Kenya. Not only did we succeed but we also went beyond that. Our kitesurfing village is an ever-evolving space with many activities and events focused on well-being, music and art. With the help of local creators we aim to make Kilifi the most desirable holiday destination on the coast!

SOKO MARKET

For a long time, Kilifi was something of a well-kept secret. It wasn’t until a few years ago that this beautiful town got rediscovered and attracted outsiders who decided to make a base among its luscious, green surroundings. A big part of this community consists of artisans and creators who own growing and prospering businesses in town. The SOKO market that we hold is a regular event where these entrepreneurs come together to showcase and sell their creations. The market gives you a fantastic opportunity to purchase a unique piece of art from one of our artisans which supports small, local brands.

WEEKLY YOGA

Our mission from the beginning was to create a place where our guests can focus on well-being and reconnection with nature and themselves. Practicing yoga can be a great tool for that. Not only can it reduce stress and improve your focus, it’s a fantastic way to build up inner strength and flexibility. Many kitesurfers would agree that yoga is offers great training in between your kite sessions and can prevent you from getting injured.

Our classes are run by wonderful teachers, each one of them representing a different style. If you’re new to yoga, we advise you to try all the classes to see which style suits you the best!

A word from one of the teachers, Jess Mckenzie

Yoga is the oldest system of personal development in the world - encompassing body, mind and spirit. It has many benefits for the body and the mind. It strengthens and tones, as well as allows for us to access a state of pure consciousness. When we use the breath and go into the body to still/ quiet the mind, we experience an awareness that is a very powerful tool in one’s life that can help to heal and bring clarity to the mind. It is a moving meditation. Yoga releases physical and mental tension and liberates vast sources of energy.

Yoga is very personal to my life, I have been doing it since I was a very young child and completed my teacher course at 17 years old. I like to teach classes that are a combination of hatha and vinyasa. I am also trained to teach yin yoga and so teach yin classes as well. I have never met anyone that does yoga consistently and doesn’t notice huge improvement in their mental and physical bodies - it truly is a special practice!

KILIFI WELLNESS FESTIVAL

As we mentioned earlier, the sphere of well-being has always been an important aspect of Salty’s. We are the proud home of the Kilifi Wellness Festival - a four day retreat filled with incredible workshops, classes and a lot of laughter. KWF was the first event of its kind in Kenya and this year is our 4th edition. The activities are spread out between our green Salty’s grounds, Bofa Beach and the luscious Kilifi Creek.

The festival invites teachers and mentors from East Africa who will guide you through a variety of yoga styles including Vinyasa Flow, Hatha, Aerial Yoga, SUP Yoga and Laughter Yoga

Among other well-being events, participants will try breath-work, meditation, head wrapping, injury prevention, addiction recovery, spiritual healing and Shamanic wisdom. New treats include a moonrise cacao ceremony, a full moon dhow cruise, tarot card readings and ecstatic dance.

Vendors will be on hand with healing products, as well as nutritious and delicious food. Take time to reset, relax and reconnect on the white sands of Kilifi’s famous Bofa Beach and the turquoise waters of Kilifi Creek.

The next edition starts on 1st to 4th June. Book now and get an early bird ticket!
