Lamu Kite Safari - The Catamaran Edition

Get ready for the biggest kitesurfing adventure in Kenya

In the upcoming Kaskazi season, we are back with the best kitesurfing expedition in Kenya. The next edition has a major upgrade - we’ll explore the Lamu Archipelago on a very exclusive and unique catamaran. We’ll sail through these beautiful and remote islands to take you to some world class kitesurfing spots. All while living onboard of a superb boat to make this wild experience as comfortable and enjoyable as it can get. Lamu is definetely the windiest place in Kenya, it’s blowing every day and is consistent, strong and reliable. In addition water temperature in the Indian Ocean never goes below 27degrees, so you have a kitesurfing paradise right here.

The catamaran has a few chilling areas on the main deck, surrounded by private cabins. Thanks to this we can now accommodate bigger groups, while keeping comfort and more privacy on sea. Our onboard crew will take care of absolutely everything, all to ensure you’ll have the most awesome kitesurfing vacation! Life on a catamaran is the Eat-Kite-Sleep repeat dream!

Wind & weather

The Kaskazi wind blows daily from December - March on average of 15-25knots. The water condition is tide dependent, so it will be both flat and choppy close to the shore, and mellow waves at the reef.

How to get there

The best way to get to Lamu Island is via airplane. You’ll find daily flights from Nairobi, Malindi or Mombasa (we recommend Safarilink, Jambojet or Skyward Express).

Driving to Lamu is also an option, but keep in mind that there are no cars allowed in Lamu island. There’s an option to leave your car at secured parking in Mokowe town (mainland Kenya).

FAQs

  • To be able to kite at these spots you need to be able to ride upwind at the minimum. The spots are largely safe, but as these places are wild and remote you need to know what you are doing so as not to have any accidents. Good gear is highly recommended.

  • Yes, we require a 50% deposit in order to reserve a spot for you. The remaining amount should be settled 3 weeks prior to the trip. The payment for the gear rental and alcoholic beverages will be settled at the last day of the journey.

  • Absolutely yes! Lamu Archipelago has amazing nature and it’s just a perfect place to rewind and relax. You can enjoy snorkeling, lounging on a catamaran and a variety of stunning beaches!

  • This is very unlikely to happen, as we will be travelling in the peak of the season and the monsoon winds are the most reliable in the world. The Kaskazi wind is up every day, blowing consistently on average of 15-25knots. In case a non-windy day happens we can keep ourselves entertained by snorkeling and exploring the beautiful islands.

  • The cabins are a double occupancy, so if you’re travelling solo we will accommodate you with another kiter. Want to stay by yourself? No problem, you can book a private cabin with additional cost. Please enquire here.

  • That’s no problem, but make sure to give us a notice as our chef needs to adjust the menu for anyone with special requirements before we board our catamaran. Please contact us here.

  • Lamu town and Shela have a very rich history and culture, so there is plenty to explore! Contact us, if you need any hotel recommendations and check our blog post to see what to explore while you’re there.

  • You can change or cancel a booking for free 2 months prior to departure.
